Post-Sponsored Events

Here are some of the events that The Post sponsors each year. When event dates and times are determined, we'll add them to the events calendar.

"Be An Angel" Holiday Campaign
The Post joins with a local nonprofit agency each year to request gifts and financial support to help serve needy families or individuals in our community. Readers may drop off gifts and contributions in The Post's lobby and are invited to attend a special noontime collection event featuring the Eastern High School Choir and refreshments in mid-December at The Post's Northwest D.C. building.

Evening in the Stacks
Annually The Post sponsors an evening at a Washington, DC metropolitan area library featuring poetry readings, music, food and fun to benefit the library.

Fall for the Book - A Literary Festival
In September The Post presents this festival in cooperation with George Mason University and the City of Fairfax in Virginia. Book writers and readers gather to share their love of books, reading and literacy. The street festival provides fun for the entire family and includes food and music.

Frederick Festival of the Arts
Each June, The Post presents this local festival on the canal in downtown Frederick, Md., featuring a juried arts competition, arts vendors, artist demonstrations, an interactive children's art center, live entertainment, food and kayaking on the canal.

Good Neighbor Food & Fund Drive
Each year, The Post teams up with Giant Food, Inc. to collect food and raise funds for the Capital Area Community Food Bank. Donations help the food bank's 700 member agencies feed thousands each year in our community.

Healthy Kids Fun Run
Associated with the Marine Corps Marathon is the Healthy Kids Fun Run. The Healthy Kids Fun Run is a road race that provides children from 7-12 the opportunity to learn about health and fitness. The Healthy Kids Fun Run provides the opportunity for 700 of the metropolitan area's youth with the opportunity to learn about health and fitness. 700 participants will race on the 1 mile course and there is no entrance fee. To participate, each participant will provide a toy for the toys for tots program in lieu of the $10.00 entrance fee. The Post, in turn will cover the $10.00 fee and provide $7,000 to the Toys for Tots Program. More...

The day includes a wide range of children's activities and entertainment at The Post Kids Corner, and the festival features local entertainment and displays, a juried arts and crafts show, food, and fun for the entire family.

Marine Corps Marathon
Each October, The Post presents this world-renown marathon. The Marine Corps Marathon has the largest number of first-time marathon runners of any marathon in the United States. The Post mascot, Ned The Newshound, is often on hand to mingle with spectators as they wait for their friends and loved ones to finish the 26-mile race.

Shakespeare Free For All
For two weeks each June since 1991, The Post has sponsored the Shakespeare "Free For All" held at Carter Barron Amphitheatre in Washington, D.C. This summer tradition, with performances produced by the Shakespeare Theatre, helps make Shakespeare available to non-traditional audiences. Free tickets are available at The Post (1150 15th St. N.W.) each day for that evening's performance.

Stages for All Ages
During February and March, The Post sponsors "Stages for All Ages," a program of the League of Washington Theatres that encourages young people to experience live theatre. Area adults receive a free ticket for a child 17 or younger for every regularly purchased adult ticket at participating theaters for selected performances.

Washington Post Readers Day
Each spring and fall The Post hosts an open house at one of their facilities. Walking tours are scheduled on the hour for groups interested in seeing how their hometown newspaper is produced.

Weekend's Weekends
Each summer The Post and the Weekend section of the paper host a series of free concerts featuring a variety of music from top local talent in our community. The concerts are held at the Carter Barron Amphitheatre in Washington, D.C., in cooperation with the National Park Service of the National Capital Region.
