Department: Advertising

Position: Telephone Sales Representative

Classification: Full Time and Part Time

Basic Requirements:

  • Previous sales and/or marketing experience strongly preferred;
  • 1-2 years experience in outbound telephone sales environment strongly preferred;
  • Computer skills with Windows environment preferred;
  • Accurate 45 wpm typing preferred;
  • Excellent spelling required;
  • Demonstrated ability to sell and effectively close sales;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including, spelling and grammar;
  • Solid conflict resolution skills;
  • Self motivated to take initiative with projects;
  • Clear and articulate speech with excellent phone etiquette required;
  • Good listening skills are necessary;
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.

General Responsibilities:

  • Sell Washington Post advertising over the telephone;
  • Assist in the development and upgrade of accounts;
  • Problem-solve and respond to the needs of advertisers;
  • Handle the pressure of a fast-paced, deadline driven environment of a major news publication;
  • Work with service teams in tracking contract performance;
  • Plan and implement business strategies to grow revenue and expand market share;
  • Assure customer satisfaction in each sales or service transaction.
