Hortense H. Adams
Prince George’s County Public Schools

Mrs. Adams is a sixth grade classroom teacher at Deerfield Run Elementary School. She began her career in education as a fifth grade classroom teacher at Kenbridge Elementary School in Kenbridge, Va., where she taught from 1968 to 1974. In 1974, Mrs. Adams joined the Prince George’s County Public School system as a fifth grade teacher at Samuel Morse Elementary School where she was also chairperson of the committee for evaluation of the school’s administrative department. She assumed her present position in 1980. During Mrs. Adams’ twenty-five year tenure at Deerfield Run, she has served as the reading/English language arts department chair for the sixth grade team, chairperson of the math/science committee and was one of the originators of Deerfield Run’s science fair program. She currently serves as the school’s science coordinator. Mrs. Adams received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from St. Paul’s College in Lawrenceville, Va., and a master of arts degree in guidance and counseling from The George Washington University.
