Anne B. Smoot
St. Mary’s County Public Schools

Mrs. Smoot is a special education teacher at Spring Ridge Middle School in Lexington Park, Md. Her career as an educator has taken place in the St. Mary’s County Public School system where she has worked since 1974. In addition to teaching at Spring Ridge Middle School, Mrs. Smoot initiated participation in the Special Olympics at the school in 1993 and has been its liaison and champion for the past eleven years. She is a mentor for new teachers and is currently the special education department chair at Spring Ridge Middle School. Mrs. Smoot received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Lock Haven University in Lock Haven, Pa., and a master of science degree in communicative disorders from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md.
