Monica M. Piern
Charles County Public Schools

Mrs. Piern is a first grade teacher at Mary H. Matula Elementary School and has been an educator in the Charles County Public School system since 1990. She began her career in education as a second grade teacher at Dr. James Craik Elementary School. While at Craik, Mrs. Piern was a State of Maryland Council on Economic Education Award winner and a mentor for the At Risk Student Program. Since 1998, she has also worked as a reading resource teacher at T.C. Martin Elementary School. Mrs. Piern received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Towson State University in Towson, Md., and a master of science degree in education/curriculum design and instruction from Western Maryland College in Westminster, Md.
