Robert A. Mitchell
Howard County Public Schools
Mr. Mitchell is a first grade teacher at Pointers Run Elementary School. He began his teaching career in 1988 as a student teacher at Mount Royal Elementary School in Baltimore Md. In 1989, Mr. Mitchell joined the Howard County Public School system as a fourth grade teacher at Swansfield Elementary School where he remained for two years. In 1993, he joined the faculty at Pointers Run as a second grade teacher. During his tenure at Pointers Run, Mr. Mitchell has held positions as a fourth grade teacher, reading specialist and third grade team leader. He assumed his present position as first grade team leader in 1999. Mr. Mitchell attained his National Board Certification in 2000 and was named Wal-Mart Howard County Teacher of the year in 2002. He received a bachelor of science degree in mass communication, a bachelor of science in education and an master of education in reading from Towson State University in Towson, Md.
