Laurie J. Sullivan
Arlington County Public Schools

Mrs. Sullivan is a Project Discovery teacher at Barrett Elementary School. She began her teaching career in the Santa Barbara School District in California at Harding Elementary School. She was a second grade bilingual teacher there from 1987 to 1989. From 1989 to 1993, Mrs. Sullivan taught first grade, first and second grade split classes and third grade at Vieja Valley Elementary School in the Hope School District in Santa Barbara, Calif. In 1993, she joined the faculty at Barrett Elementary where she taught the fourth grade, working specifically with ethnically and linguistically diverse classes. In 1996, Mrs. Sullivan became the Project Discovery teacher for kindergarten through fifth grade. She is responsible for the implementation of this hands-on math and science learning program that integrates technology as well and reading and writing. In addition, Mrs. Sullivan has been the instructional lead teacher since 1999. She received a B.A. degree in liberal studies from the University of California at Santa Barbara in Santa Barbara, Calif., and an M.Ed. degree from George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.
