Rachel Newell
Loudoun County Public Schools

Mrs. Newell is a music teacher at Hillside Elementary School. She began her teaching career in 1972 in Louisa County Public Schools in Mineral, Va. where she taught music at Louisa County High School and Louisa Middle School. Mrs. Newell remained there until 1974 when she began teaching music in the Loudoun County School system at Hamilton, Guilford and Lucketts Elementary Schools. From 1976 to 1977, she taught at the Dale School of Languages in Cambridge, England. In 1977, Mrs. Newell returned to Loudoun County where she taught music at Aldie, Middleburg, and Arcola Elementary Schools for two years. From 1979 to 1981 she taught music at Loudoun Country Day School in Leesburg, Va. In 1981, Mrs. Newell took time off from teaching and became the Choir Director at Saint James Episcopal Church in Leesburg, Va. where she remained for three years. In 1984, she returned to Loudoun County Public Schools and assumed her current position. Mrs. Newell received a B.A. from Westhampton College at the University of Richmond in Richmond, Va., and an M.M.E. degree from Shenandoah University in Winchester, Va.
