2004 Winners

Joseph B. Warfield,
Charles County Public Schools, is principal of Milton M. Somers Middle School. Mr. Warfield’s entire career in education has taken place in Charles County where he began as a math teacher at Milton M. Somers in 1970. In addition to teaching math at Milton M. Somers, he also taught math at Thomas Stone High School until 1979. During his tenure as a math teacher, Mr. Warfield became a math department chair at Thomas Stone and McDonough High Schools for five years. In 1984, he became vice principal at McDonough High School, a position he held for one year before assuming the position of vice principal in 1985 at La Plata High School. His service as principal at La Plata lasted until 1992 when he moved to Piccowaxen Middle School to become their school principal for six years. In 1998, Mr. Warfield assumed his current position. He is a member of the Maryland Association of Secondary School Principals, the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development and the National Education Association. Mr. Warfield holds a BA degree in political science and math from Concord College in Athens, W. Va., and an MA degree in supervision and human relations from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
