Kathleen A. Halayko,
Falls Church City Public Schools, is the principal of Mount Daniel Elementary School. Mrs. Halayko began her career in education in 1971 as a coordinator of the speech and language hearing program for the Prince William County Public School system. In addition to coordinating this program, she became acting principal at Woodbine Elementary School in Manassas, Va., where she remained until 1975. From 1975 to 1988, Mrs. Halayko took time off to raise a family. In 1988, Mrs. Halayko joined the Falls Church City Public School system as a speech language pathologist at Mount Daniel Elementary School. She later became the child find coordinator, a program that helps to identify special needs children, a Phonemic Awareness Language Screening (PALS) testing coordinator and special education team leader for Mount Daniel. Mrs. Halayko assumed her current position in 1998. She holds a BA degree in political science from Newton College in Chestnut Hill, Mass., and an MA degree in speech pathology from the College of St. Rose in Albany, N.Y.
