Washington, DC 20071

NOTE: Applications cannot be received by FAX

Application Format:
Please do not bind the proposal, insert it in protective sleeves, or prepare it in other types of notebook form. This kind of presentation only makes the review process more difficult.

Deadlines: The Washington Post will review requests on a quarterly basis only. Applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. on:

  • March 3, 2009, for the Spring review
  • June 2, 2009, for the Summer review
  • September 1, 2009, for the Fall review
  • December 1, 2009 for the Winter review
**NOTE: If your proposal is for a specific event and not a general support request, it must be received prior to the closing dates listed above or it will not be reviewed.

Notification: Applicants should anticipate a 30 to 60 day processing period for applications. All applicants will be informed in writing of the decision of the Contributions Committee following the proposal review.Because of the volume of requests received, applicants are discouraged from making telephone inquiries during the application review process.

Due to budgetary constraints, The Washington Post no longer provides monetary support through the Charitable Giving Program. Nonprofit organizations can still receive non-monetary support through Public Interest/Promotional Advertising, PostPoints Partnership designations and In-Kind Auction Items. Please be aware that all decisions will be consistent with our new mission of supporting educational and arts initiatives. Strict adherence to these guidelines will maximize the impact of our charitable giving program in the metropolitan Washington, DC region.

Although we appreciate the considerable time and effort involved in preparing a funding request, unfortunately we are not able to respond favorably to many of the worthy requests for assistance that we receive. For further information, please call (202) 334-7969.
